DEFINITION NEWS
There is some understanding of the news, including the Dean M. Lyle Spencer in his book News Writtings which was later quoted by George Fox Mott (New Survey Journalism) states that the news can be defined as any fact that is accurate or an idea that can draw attention to the a large number of readers. [1]
Meanwhile, Mitchell V. Charnley in his third edition Reporting (Reinhart & Winston-Holt, New York, 1975 page 44) mentions the news is timely reports on facts or opinions that have appeal or important things, or both for the wider community. It can be concluded that "news is a fact or an idea or opinion that is interesting and accurate actual and deemed important for a large number of readers, listeners and viewers." [2]
From the above, there are four elements that must be met by an event, so it deserves to be a story. These elements are: [3]
1. The actual element
Contains elements of the latest, newest, hottest, recently or is happening. Current understanding, can the latest facts found from an old event, or events that just happened.
2. Factual Elements
In the factual elements, events really is a reality, not a fabrication, fantasy or fiction. Facts in a news emerged and gained from a real incident, opinion or statement.
3. Important Elements
There are two things in the news considered important. First figures involved in reporting is an important figure or the capacity that has been recognized by the community.
Second, news items concerning the interests of the people and affect society.
4. Elements of Interest
Raises curiosity, and interest of the public to listen to the news content. Events of interest and demand by the public usually entertaining, whimsical, has an element of proximity, containing the value of humanity, containing elements of sex, crime and conflict.
